Story
Giving Tuesday is an important day to celebrate and support causes close to your heart. Just for one day only, Thera has planned a roadshow of best moments, fantastic work, and incredible people that make Thera a cause worth celebrating. From the bottom end of England to the top end of Scotland, join the virtual ride to see how we fuel people with a learning disability to live they life they choose. Join us on December 1st to see how we support people with a learning disability by empowering them to enjoy family, friends, careers, hobbies, and a home just like everyone else.
Government statistics show us the most common type of social care support used by adults with a learning disability aged 18 to 64 was received as a council managed personal budget. This means their council chooses how many hours of what type of care a person receives. Without control over their own support, the individual loses their voice for what they want from their life and how they want to live. From each day on its own, to lifelong ambitions, people with a learning difficulty are struggling to be heard about things most of us wouldn't think twice about. They have no say about their family, having a career, enjoying hobbies, or feeling at home.
At Thera, our vision is that all people with a learning disability can receive the appropriate support to become an active part of society and enjoy family, a career, hobbies and home Just like everybody else. To achieve this we combine bespoke funded day to day care with voluntary funded additional support to build confidence and independence in all areas of life including relationship building, careers and training, housing, and achieving personal goals.
