Story
With 2022 continuing to be just as difficult with the effects of the rising costs of energy and pressure on supply chains, Christmas for those diagnosed with cancer and their families looks just as challenging. Factor in money problems, unemployment and health issues and you can understand the range of additional pressures facing many individuals and families across the country.
That's why our Christmas Gift Appeal, and your support, will help to bring a little extra cheer this Christmas to adult cancer patients in hospital and enjoy what most of us take for granted over during the festive period.
How you can help?
Our fundraising appeal will help raise money to purchase gifts for adult cancer patients throughout the month of December, including gifts for those staying in hospital over the festive period.
How will your donation help?
£5 will enable a donation of 1 Christmas Gift Pack - there will be a variety of packs such as Pamper, Craft Sets and Journals.
£40 will enable a funding of 1 Festive Christmas Hamper for an adult cancer patient in hospital/community. The hamper will be filled with festive treats - food & drink. This will be delivered to the recipient as a surprise on the lead up to Christmas.
We hope this will bring a bit of brightness to what continues to be a really tough and difficult time.
So please, give as much as you can to make someone else's Christmas a little happier this year.
Thank you so much for your support at this important time of the year.
What happens if we raise over £10,000 our appeal target?
Any money raised over the £10,000 appeal target will be used to help fund the charity in 2023 in the delivery of its services to adult cancer patients in hospital. The funds will be used where the charity decides is the best place to spend the funds raised to provide our service to the recipients of our work.
About The Lewis Foundation
At The Lewis Foundation we source, package and hand deliver gift packs for free to adult cancer patients in hospitals in the Midlands weekly. These are items that patients might find difficult to buy themselves or simply cannot afford and that brings people happiness and comfort at a difficult time. For many people in hospital, our volunteers are their only regular visitors.
The charity was set up by Lorraine and Lee Lewis who were so moved when Lee's mum was hospitalised with cancer at Northampton General Hospital that it led them to set up a charity. Recognising the fear, upset and loneliness faced by individuals undergoing cancer treatment and their loved ones, they were determined the charity would make a real difference. They sourced donations, packaged, and delivered gifts to patients on oncology wards. That was April 2016 when The Lewis Foundation was born. Today with a team of 50 volunteers and community supporters, The Lewis Foundation has grown from delivering 80 gift packs to one hospital, to delivering around 2000 gifts per month to 16 hospitals in the Midlands per month.
How it works in the hospital, is that patients pick a gift pack of their choice from our gift trolley and there are 29 different packs to pick from. Packs range from toiletries, puzzle books and miniature radios. Once the gift is received, we then spend time with people to reduce loneliness.
