Story
Imagine a Christmas day with no hot food, no gifts and no one to talk to?
Age UK Birmingham and Age UK Sandwell are here to offer a wide range of services, including a hot meals service, information and advice and a friendship telephone call and buddy service, during the festive period to our older community.
Mr M's story
Mr M, aged 70 was referred to our hot meal service from the QE discharge team following a 9 week hospital stay due to Covid-19. Mr M was a fit and healthy man who enjoyed socialising and attending a walking football activity. Following his Covid-19 diagnosis Mr M ended up with complex health issues including losing his ability of his feet and arms. Mr M only has one daughter who doesn't live close by and is a key worker. Mr M was keen to maintain his own independence and get back home. The hot meal service was part of Mr M's hospital discharge, to support Mr M with hot meals whilst he got home to recover and build up his strength. Mr M was also referred into Age UK Birmingham's shopping service for extra support.
I am overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness and kindness, its unbelievable. Your driver was the only person I saw from day to day. Thank you so much for helping me get home and giving me a good roast dinner that I wouldn't be able to cook for myself.
