Story
Did you know that on average 550 people are diagnosed with primary breast cancer in West Devon and East Cornwall annually?
In 2023 it was recorded that the Oncology breast nurse specialist team at University Hospitals Plymouth saw 254 primary breast cancer patients and 61 metastatic (secondary) breast cancer patients.
Whilst there are many different treatments available records show that in 2023 over 57% of breast cancer patients seen and treated by the Primrose Breast Care team at University Hospitals Plymouth lost their hair due to breast cancer treatment.
Everyone is different. Some embrace being bald and beautiful, while others feel more confident wearing a wig until their hair begins to replenish and regrow.
Hair loss for some going through breast cancer treatment can be devastating, many are not able to afford a well-made, professionally fitted wig which helps to improve self-esteem and allows a person to look and feel more like themselves.
Supporting patients at any time during their breast cancer treatment is paramount to us and we are inviting you to help us provide comfort and support when it’s needed the most to those affected by breast cancer by getting involved in our Big Wig Give Campaign.
A small act of kindness will enable us to provide those who suffer hair loss during their treatment for breast cancer with a wig voucher.
We know that great things can happen when we all come together, so this is a wonderful way to show your support by donating today.
Every £100 received will help to fund one wig grant and with over 315 patients accessing our wig grant voucher scheme annually your help is needed more than ever.
Please donate today for the patients of tomorrow.
