Story
The Yompathon is a 3863 mile march across the United Kingdom visiting over two hundred military and emergency service establishments. The gruelling journey is being undertaken by seven former and serving personnel from the seven branches of front-line services: Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army, Royal Air Force, Police, Fire and Rescue and Emergency Ambulance Service, all to raise money, awareness and support for front-line service personnel suffering from mental ill health.
Supporting the mental health of our front line services
The 3863 mile journey will begin and finish at Royal Navy Headquarters, HMS Excellent, Whale Island in Portsmouth, commencing on 01 Oct 2022 and finishing forty days later, on 10 November in time for Veterans Day / Remembrance Day.
MD is planning to lead the team of twelve service personnel on this marching odyssey, passing through three countries, fourteen national parks and forty counties across the UK.
MD has called this event The Yompathon, after the term YOMP Your Own Marching Pace. MD thought of the idea when he was a team member of a charity event called The Gumpathon in 2010, which saw him, and five other team members run nearly a marathon every day for two months across the US.
All donations (minus event costs) will be shared evenly between our chosen beneficiaries: Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity , FirstLight Trust , All Call Signs, SSAFA: The Armed Forces Charity , Fire Fighters Charity , Police Care UK , The Ambulance Staff Charity & NHS Charities together.
