Some people choose a career. Karissa David chose a calling.

When she pinned on Dallas Police Badge #11578, she promised to protect a city full of people she had never met. She kept that promise every shift, on patrol in South Central and alongside the officers she called family.

On August 29, 2024, that promise was tested. When a fellow officer was ambushed, Karissa didn't hesitate. She ran toward the danger, and she was shot multiple times.

The injuries she suffered that day including the loss of her sight would have broken many people. They didn't break Karissa. She fought through surgeries and a long recovery. She stood again among her fellow officers. She was honored for her courage. And through all of it, she never lost her smile.

On October 22, 2026, Officer Karissa David retires from the Dallas Police Department. She is closing one chapter, but her story is far from over.

Karissa answered the call for Dallas. Now Dallas can answer the call for her.
