Unpaid carers often look after a loved one 24/7 365 days a year. Although they do something amazing, they are often invisible to most of us. This is our opportunity to say 'Thank you'! Your donation will fund vital support for carers local to you.
I have been looking after my wife that suffers with Parkinson's and incontinence due to her Parkinson's. Also she suffers from COPD. I'm also disabled with crumbling spine, prostate cancer, COPD, severe arthritis and find it hard to walk and bend down so I find it very hard to clean up after my wife has a accident.
Brian is one of the many unpaid carers who have told us about their experiences on our Carers Speak Out webpage. Like many others, he is supporting a loved one at home. For unpaid carers there are no days off, no sick leave, and Carers Allowance is just £69.70 per week. Many unpaid carers wash and dress their loved one, cook for them and feed them, help them go to the toilet and clean up after them. It can be relentless.
But working across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Peterborough, we are here to support carers. We provide Hubs - regular local get-togethers where carers can have a break, get to know others, and receive training and advice. We provide a Helpline - expert advice at the end of the phone from someone who really understands and is listening. We provide Counselling - mental health and emotional support for carers who feel overwhelmed and stressed out. We provide breaks, enabling an unpaid carer to have some time to themselves to go swimming or go on a shopping trip, by looking after their loved one ourselves. And much more!
You can say thank you to unpaid carers for the amazing job they do by making a donation today. Your donation will help to fund our vital services for people like Brian.
In the short film below (just under 3 minutes) Betty tells us about her experience as an unpaid carer:

We provide practical support to people who look after a family member or friend who is ill, disabled or frail due to age. We work across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Peterborough.
We are determined that no unpaid carer should be isolated, struggling alone or reach crisis point.
