Story
On 4th September, Beth, Myles, Heidi, Jane, Kit, Martin & Chris will be attempting the 3rd Tearfund Thames Triathlon - 52 miles of running (10 miles), kayaking/rowing (10 miles) and cycling (32 miles), along and around the river Thames, from near the Tearfund office in Teddington.
Why 52 miles? In 2018 we celebrated Tearfunds 50th anniversary with the Jubilee Triathlon. Were adding on 1 mile every year to the triathlon challenge.
We're following Jesus where the need is greatest, working through local churches to unlock people's potential and helping them to discover that the answer to poverty is within themselves. When disasters strike, we respond quickly. We won't stop until poverty stops.
Ruths children used to beg for food. It broke her heart. Everything seemed hopeless, she says. But then Ruth attended a course run by her church, where she was taught better farming methods. Now she can feed her family, and is saving up money so that her children can go to school. Everything has changed, says Ruth. Its so exciting!
We'll be attempting this huge 52 mile challenge to make sure that we can help more people like Ruth and her family. Every parent should be able to feed their children. No child should ever have to go to bed hungry or to drink dirty water.
Some of us are runners, some are cyclists, some are experts on the water, but putting all 3 together on the same day is a big challenge. Your support will inspire us to another step/stroke/pedal, and together we can transform lives for people like Ruth and her family.
