Story
We are a small congregation with a community spirit at our heart. Our premises provide a community hub for many local groups from baby & toddler groups, uniformed organisations ie Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, through to exercise classes including karate for juniors and seniors, ladies fitness, yoga and gentle exercise for over 60s, not forgetting our partnership with Sorted Youth Church grown over 18 years by innovative, pioneering outreach through working with schools, social activities and intentional discipleship.
Our heating boiler is nearing 20 years old and needs replacing (approximate cost £10,000). We intend to seek funding grants to cover as much of this as possible; however, the heating control panel failed recently. As this is classed as maintenance rather than a planned enhancement there are no funding grants available so we are having to dig deep for a replacement at a cost of £6,000 eek!
We appreciate that these are financially challenging times for everyone; however, as our community groups play such an important role in supporting the development and well-being of all ages, we are reluctant to simply pass these costs on to them. As a church, we are doing whatever we can to reduce our carbon footprint and use energy as effectively and efficiently as possible. To this end, we decided recently to move our Sunday worship from the main sanctuary to the community hall between Harvest and Easter, apart from Christmas services or other special services.
For those who are familiar with the parable of the feeding of the 5,000, we know that by sharing a little - five loaves and two fishes - a great multitude were fed. We ask, therefore, that you also dig deep and share a little of what you have as a donation to help us cover the cost of the control panel so that we can continue to provide a warm environment for the many people of Thackley who use our premises.
Whatever you feel able to give is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
