Story
Rebuild East Midlands works across Derby and Derbyshire, supporting survivors of modern slavery to fully access opportunities to embrace a hope filled future.
This is achieved by providing long-term one-to-one practical, advocacy and emotional support, activities and group sessions, as well as wellbeing, therapeutic and coaching support.
Funds raised through the Derby 10k will go directly towards funding our core services.
£20 could help pay for one hour of one-to-one support for a person who has experienced modern slavery, assisting them to secure safe accommodation, education, employment or health care.
£2,000 could cover the cost of our Client Discretionary Fund for the year, which is then distributed to support people with emergency needs such as bus tickets to appointments, to attend groups or English classes, food vouchers to support with food poverty, and one off emergency costs.
£2,200 could help pay for translation costs, for the year, to ensure that communication is clear when discussing and arranging plans with solicitors, housing providers for accommodation, employment.
£30 could help us to provide a 1 hour trauma informed coaching session to 1 individual.
Helping more people like Francell*:
Francell was referred to Rebuild feeling extremely isolated and depressed, living everyday with the stress and trauma of past experiences. She joined one of our craft groups, and one of our Project Workers worked alongside her to sort out practical life decisions and actions necessary to rebuild her life, such as helping her apply for benefits and housing, attending appointments to advocate with her, and generally being available to talk things through and listen. .
“Before I felt like I was nobody like I was carrying a burden, but now I feel light and free. Before I didn’t see myself as being able to have a life but now I have a life of my own and a future to look forward too. For 22 years I felt a bird that was caged but now I feel free”.
