As soon as my mum got her Huntington's diagnosis in February 2023 I knew I needed to do something to feel proactive and help the Huntington's Disease Association as they had already been so helpful to our family in providing information that the doctors didn’t seem to have. The Great North Run seemed a good idea! I had only ever run a couple of 10k races so the thought of a half marathon was slightly scary, but I knew my fundraising would be making a huge difference to the Huntington's Disease Association. This is what helped me through training and the race itself. I roped in my brother to race with me and we had a fantastic time. Spotting some of the other runners on #TeamHDA in the crowds kept us busy! The support out there was amazing and the achievement crossing the line after raising £2,800 knowing how much it could do is quite something.
