Story

This year a team of Freedom from Torture supporters are taking on the Hackney Half Marathon to raise awareness of and funds for survivors of torture, to give them a voice again, and a road to recovery.

We are thrilled to welcome to the team:

Harley Johnson , Hattie Collins , Ellie Gillam , Sayeeda Ali , Esther Campbell , Gillian Hughes, Katy Robjant , James Smith, Antonia Orr, Salam Iqbal, Antonia Orr, Huw Eliot

Marsha, a survivor, says:

"I was detained. They alleged I had information against the government to pass to my father. Over the next two days, they did everything to get me to talk about whatever they wanted to know.

At Freedom from Torture, I found my passion for life again.

After a long time, I feel confident again; that life is not over yet. Sharing a meal with members of the Write to Life group, writing and thinking about various topics, learning from each others struggle and pain, getting advice from mentors regarding life, career and writing have all restored the meaning in my life. I always feel the peace and positive vibe of the organization."
