Story
BBS is the UK's only national sports and physical activity charity exclusively for children and adults with sight loss. People with sight loss are twice as likely to be inactive as people without sight loss and we need your help to change this. 2 in 3 people with sight loss say there are physical activities that they want to do but aren't able to.
There are more than 350,000 children and adults who are blind or partially sighted and they need our help now more than ever before. People with sight loss are more likely to experience loneliness and nearly half report feeling isolated and cut-off from society. Two-thirds of people with severe sight loss are living below the poverty line and over 90% of those who lose their sight in their youth will never have a long-term job.
BBS uses the power of sport to change the lives of people with sight loss and support them in leading more active, independent and healthy lives. At BBS, we know that physical activity has the huge potential to transform the health and wellbeing of people with sight loss. Research shows that regular physical activity boosts self-esteem, mood, energy and reduces stress as well as providing valuable opportunities to socialise and feel part of an active community.
BBS mission is to achieve equal opportunities for all people with sight loss in sport and physical activity and ensure that sport and regular physical activity is accessible for all people with sight loss in the UK. Every year, BBS reaches 5000+ people through our services, events and project work. BBS supports people with sight loss of all abilities to participate in a wide range of physical activity and sport from home-based exercise to activities at clubs, schools & leisure centres and all the way up to elite international competition.
