Story
What happens when a keen fundraiser and Calvert Trust Exmoor staff come together to discuss fundraising ideas?
Well, we end up agreeing to run the virtual London Marathon together!
Jacquie contacted us in early 2021 with a big idea. She has started a weight loss programme and lifestyle change, but with a twist.
To help her motivation, Jacquie is asking for donations to Calvert Trust Exmoor. When Jacquie reaches her target weight she would like to ride one of our horses beside her daughter for the very first time.
So far Jacquie has raised over £800 for the charity, and it's fantastic for us to see her fully embrace the idea of saying yes to life.
Meanwhile, it's become a big year for Calvert Trust Exmoor in the London Marathon as we have 5 people running the race in London on the 3rd of October, whilst also raising money.
This is why it seemed like a great idea to also sign Jacquie and a small team of staff up to the virtual London Marathon - which involves entering via an official app and completing the 26.2 miles from home.
Team Calvert Exmoor was born, and we'll be doing the 26.2 miles around Wistlandpound Reservoir - about 16 laps around the water.
This is the first time any of us have done an event like this. Are we worried and doubting ourselves? Oh yes! But we're going to finish the event, because it's what you can do that counts! So please support us if you can.
Why this marathon fundraising event is important to us
Back in 2020, Calvert Trust Exmoor closed due to Covid-19, and like so many other businesses we were heavily hit and suffered financial losses of almost £2 million.
We have launched a Birthday Appeal to celebrate the centres 25th year, and every pound from every donor and fundraiser in 2021 is going towards the appeal. Our mission is to reach a target of £250,000 to make up for the Covid effect.
The London Marathon is one of the biggest fundraising events in the world, and we are lucky enough to have 5 wonderful runners entering the race. But many other people, like Jacquie, wanted to take part in the marathon in some way or another to help reach the Birthday Appeal target.
Team Calvert Exmoor know that all the money generated from the event will go straight to the charity and will be used to help people with disabilities experience life-changing accessible adventure breaks.
