Story

Tay Rowing Club members are rowing the entire length of the River Tay from its source to the sea, to raise essential funds for the club and provide an indoor space for winter training.

We'll be rowing the total distance of 193km across 2 Concept 2 rowing machines on Saturday 29th June 2024. We'll be starting at 9am and rowing in shifts to hopefully complete the challenge by 6pm. The event will take place at Bell's Sports Centre in Perth, Scotland.

Any and all donations would be much appreciated, Thank You.

The River Tay (Scottish Gaelic: Tatha) is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh-longest in Great Britain. The Tay originates in western Scotland on the slopes of Ben Lui, and flows all the way through Perth, where it becomes tidal, to its mouth at the Firth of Tay, south of Dundee. It is the largest river in the United Kingdom by measured discharge.

What is an ergathon?

An Ergathon is a classic competitive rowing and fundraising event for rowing clubs, with athletes competing with support/donations from friends and relatives to achieve their goal!

What is an erg?

An indoor rower, or rowing machine, is a machine used to simulate the action of watercraft rowing for the purpose of exercise or training for rowing. Modern indoor rowers are often known as ergometers (colloquially erg or ergo) because they measure work performed by the rower (which can be measured in ergs).
