Story
In October 2014, following the death of 6 year old Bobby Colleran in a tragic road accident The Bobby Colleran Trust was established. Primarily the trust was set-up to bring awareness of Road Safety to drivers, parents and children and ultimately help to prevent further loss of life in the vicinity of schools and other busy roads in and around the Liverpool City Region.
In 2021, following the height of the Covid19 pandemic, the Trust announced its brand new campaign Take Care for Bobby designed to address the growing need for greater mental health support for children and young people in LCR.
The Take Care for Bobby initiative provides vital support services within the school environment by delivering a mental health awareness programme to children and young people across Primary and Secondary education.
The Trust is delivering a range of therapies in schools, improve the understanding of mental health for children, young people and care givers as well as providing bite-size tips and tools for mental health caretaking within its specially-created programme.
The campaign is in three core strands:
1. Mental health assemblies (Primary and secondary)
2. 6 week therapy course delivered online and real life activities
3. Bespoke programme developed around the school and needs of the pupils
The course content includes hints and tips for greater awareness within the young people of how they are feeling, focus on connecting with nature, provide tools to manage their mental health balance including a drive for exercise and healthy eating as well as providing more tailored therapies such as yoga therapy, music therapy and art therapy.
All funds raised by the sessions will go towards supporting The Trusts vision to open its own wellbeing centre for children and young people in Liverpool as part of the next phase in the Take Care for Bobby campaign and the charity is also driving a fundraising mission to support the programme.
