Story
'In My Studio' (1893) is a stunning oil painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema RA (1836-1912), one of the most prominent artists of the Victorian period. Part of Leightons original collection, the work was gifted to him by Tadema in exchange for his 'Bath of Psyche'.
Preceded by a spectacular temporary return to Leighton House during the popular 2017 exhibition 'Alma-Tadema: At Home in Antiquity', 'In My Studio' is now back at the museum on a special loan and visitors can see it hanging in the exact location Leighton chose for it.
As part of our efforts efforts to recover Leighton's original collection, dispersed after his death, a unique opportunity has arisen to re-acquire this exquisite painting and return it permanently to the house.
The museum has already been awarded Art Fund support towards the acquisition, but we need your help to raise an additional £50,000 before May 11 - we only have three weeks to reach our target, so please give as generously as you can: all donations, no matter the size, bring us one step closer to securing this masterpiece for Leighton House.
