Story
Covid-19 has amplified the effects of sexual violence for many survivors. The additional anxiety and isolation due to the pandemic added to the trauma survivors already experience as a result of sexual violence. Covid-19 also created circumstances in which many adults were locked down with their sexual abuser.
Last year, we delivered our specialist services to more survivors of sexual violence than in any other year in our 30-year history. Sadly, we see no sign of this demand decreasing which is why we have launched this special Covid-19 recovery appeal.
Survives sole focus and specialism is supporting survivors of sexual trauma - the term we use to describe the long-term effects of sexual violence. Survive offers specialist Support Work, Counselling, Trauma and EMDR Therapy to help survivors of sexual trauma rebuild their lives, relationships and reach their potential. We also operate a Helpline which is a valuable and important source of support to survivors as well as to the partners, parents and friends of survivors.
A donation from you will help ensure we have the right number of Helpline Listeners, Support Workers, Counsellors, Trauma and EMDR Therapists to deliver our specialist services to survivors beyond the pandemic.
Our services are proven to make a huge impact on the lives of adults who have experienced sexual violence in terms of reducing trauma, improving stabilisation and improving life functioning. In the words of survivors who have used our services:
"...I'm now able to deal with emotions and flashbacks which were previously overwhelming"
"I feel more positive than I have for years"
"I feel more in control, more optimistic and more able to live my life ..."
Help us continue to be there for survivors beyond the pandemic. Help us continue to help survivors of sexual trauma rebuild their lives, relationships and reach their potential.
