A message direct from the Agência team:
We are young people living in favelas on the peripheries of the city of Rio de Janeiro. As part of the Agency for Youth Networks, we are producing information that will help other young people and teenagers to keep safe and survive this pandemic. Here in Rio's favelas, the coronavirus will cut deep. It is already impacting every part of the lives of those that live in the most vulnerable parts of the city. So we have set up a campaign to support the poorest families in our neighbourhoods: they need immediate help. Our campaign will support 1,000 families but we need donations. Be our partners now. We need your support to survive!
The reality and struggles of the pandemic are most felt in the favelas. In these communities, armed conflict is rife, overcrowded living conditions make social distancing measures almost impossible, low-income families depend on informal jobs to survive, and residents have extremely limited access to healthcare resources and water and sanitation infrastructures.
Founded in 2011, Agência de Redes para Juventude (Agency for Youth Networks in Brazil) is a creative and entrepreneurial project that works with young people living in favelas of Rio. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Agência has been supporting over 1,000 of the poorest households from the North and West zones, the most vulnerable parts of the city, with basic subsistence and hygiene items.
They are also actively producing reliable information to help other young people and teenagers to live through this coronavirus pandemic. They are creating and sharing online content within their communities encouraging people to stay inside, counter-acting the Brazilian government's dismissive attitude towards the most vulnerable and marginalised.
They need your support to keep going.
People's Palace Projects will donate all donations to this campaign to Agência de Redes para Juventude: we will not charge for our time, the only deductions will be for costs of money transfer.
