In the 1950s, society often kept people with disabilities on the margins, without support or acceptance. But Christine Meikle saw this and refused to let her son, and others like him, face a life of exclusion. She became a trailblazer, advocating tirelessly for access to education, healthcare, and community involvement, founding what would eventually become Vecova.
Today, as we navigate change, Christine’s legacy continues to shape our work. Facing the challenge of closing our main building, we’ve made a commitment: to remain focused on impactful, community-centered services that meet the needs of people with disabilities here and now. This transformation allows us to continue offering essential programs in mental health wellness, youth development, and supportive housing.
