Betty Encinales, is our incredible runner who's taking on the Brighton Marathon 2025 for Stagetext! Stagetext is a deaf-led charity that is passionate about making arts and culture more accessible to the 18 million adults in the UK who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing. We do this through theatre captions and live subtitles.

Betty brings more than just her running shoes to this challenge – she brings a deep understanding of why deaf access to arts and culture matters.

Betty's commitment to Stagetext's mission comes from a place of personal experience. Her former leader, who is deaf, demonstrated the transformative power of true accessibility and understanding. This connection inspired Betty to lace up her running shoes and take on the Brighton Marathon challenge.

"The arts should be for everyone," Betty explains. "Experiencing the world differently has shown me first-hand the power of clear communication. Stagetext's work in breaking down barriers to make performances and cultural spaces accessible deeply resonates with me."
