Story

Huge thanks to everyone who supported the Bucket Collection at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 23rd December. This raised an astonishing £10,673.73!!!

Archie passed away on Wednesday 13th June 2018 at 22:40 (aged 2 years and 10 months) with his Mummy and Daddy lying in bed with him, holding his little hands. They read him his two favourite bedtime stories and at the end he opened his eyes, they squeezed his hands, told him they loved him and he just stopped breathing.

Archie fought like a lion over the previous ten months (we all did), but some fights cant be won no matter how much you give. If only they could

Archie had been fighting high risk neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer since his second birthday. At diagnosis, scans showed that it was in all the long bones in his body, his skull and his bone marrow, and he was given a 50% chance of survival.

Just before Christmas 2017, after completing 2 months of induction chemotherapy, the scans were repeated, and this time showed no sign of the disease. But neuroblastoma is a cruel cancer, it plays with you, and is very good at hiding, so Archie had to continue with the rest of his treatment plan yet more chemotherapy.

It was at the end of high dose chemo, after seven months of treatment, and undergoing numerous procedures that we received the devastating news that the neuroblastoma had returned. His chance of survival dropped to just 8%.

Once the disease had returned the standard treatment was no longer suitable for Archie. This left no option but for him to have yet more chemo whilst we investigated his eligibility for clinical trials.

This is when we contacted Solving Kids Cancer for advice. Their support has been invaluable as we investigated all possible treatment options, and in the final week they gently guided us through the painful realisation that Archie had a very aggressive form of the disease that could not be treated. A hard reality that we always knew was a possibility, but never wanted to face.

Archie was the most remarkable little boy hilariously funny, kind, absolutely beautiful and brave far beyond his years. His Grandad always described him as a masterpiece. He was right.

A big, big hole has been left in so many hearts and lives. Archie will be missed, loved and remembered forever and ever.
