Story
My job has been impacted permanently due to COVID 19 and I'm collecting unemployment benefits. I'm seeking your help in getting need based financial support."
Students and residents are facing serious financial hardships as they navigate the unexpected and far-reaching implications of the disruption from COVID19. This includes our incoming students who will be making difficult decisions in the coming weeks finalizing where to attend optometry school. In the SUNY College of Optometry spirit of community, we have set up a Student and Resident Relief Fund to direct critical resources to those who find themselves with urgent expenses they're unprepared to meet.
Emergency travel and transportation, rent, food, tuition, equipment, and relocation are among the financial pressure students and residents face. This is especially hard if they relied on family support where parents or spouses may be furloughed or unemployed or if their job outside of school and residency is no longer available. While loans may be available, many students are already strained with significant debt. Through your generosity, we will be able to assist SUNY College of Optometry students and residents in greatest need by providing relief funding.
To make your gift go even further, SUNY System just announced a dollar-for-dollar matching gift challenge (up to $50,000 to start) from an anonymous supporter for all donations directed to student relief funds. This challenge grant will only be available for a short time so please consider supporting the Student and Resident Relief Fund today.
