Story
It is because of you and other generous donors that students like Nia are able to become some of the best optometrists in the country. Your donation, especially those that support the student experience and scholarships, will have a lasting effect far into the future and help create opportunities for the next generation of optometrists. Thank you.
My name is Nia, and I am a first-year student at SUNY College of Optometry. Words cannot describe how grateful I am that donors like you have made it possible for me to be here.
Optometry school always seemed like a far-away goal, and so it is amazing to think that I am half-way through my first year and that I have already learned so much.
Coming from a low-income household and as a first-generation student, I am grateful that my scholarship allows me to focus more on my academics and worry less about working enough hours to meet my educational expenses.
Last year, I graduated with a master's degree in Human Nutrition after seeing how malnutrition, both in the US and in Ethiopia, is connected to eye health. I aspire to combine my nutrition background and optometry degree to provide optimal care to my future patients, especially those from underserved backgrounds who are at greater risk for eye diseases. Your support will allow me to do that.
I appreciate your helping hand and look forward to giving back to my community as a Doctor of Optometry because of your support."
