Story
The time to help us is now! Please donate to preserve the future.
Funds raised through this campaign will go towards the core and set up, running and programme costs, needed to help transition the current artistic and all year-round programme of events to Summerhall Arts, an independent charity set up last year to support the sector. Expected costs have risen due to the size of the decision to take on this additional activity in light of the announced sale of the building in May. This will help fuel and run the lifeboat until more regular funding and income through activities can be generated.
Summerhall Arts has been working closely with the current owners, building managers and the selling agent to look to provide a solution during the transition period and the potential to negotiate a longer-term future with any new owner once they have been identified, for the delivery of the arts and events for many years to come.
Summerhall Arts are delighted to be able to say that they are in the final stages of agreeing terms on a three-year lease that will mean they are able to deliver the entire artistic and events programme at Summerhall.
Summerhall Arts, an independent registered charity, was set up at the start of this year in order to deliver an ambitious programme of professional development and artist support for the sector. As well as delivering an annual Visual Arts programme, it will now be able to now take on a wider and bigger remit. So it will now also take on the responsibility for delivering the Fringe Festival programme and the year round cultural, private and public events and meetings which are so vital for the local community.
‘Summerhall and all that happens within it is an important part of the cultural landscape in the city and it is vital that it remains, we are humbled by the support shown from the community, we have been waiting for a moment to ask for your help, now for the first time we have a way to channel that support and directly help Summerhall preserve its future.
Summerhall Arts now has to secure the means to enable this transition, safeguard the output and the staff, by fundraising to cover the additional core costs associated with delivering the annual programme of arts and culture.
We will need your support to secure this future.
Please help us by donating what you can to enable the year-round provision of arts, culture and community activity.’ Sam Gough, Summerhall Arts
