Story
Since its inception, SAH has provided hundreds of thousands of meals to families with the support of schools in our service area. Were excited to continue the mission to nourish people, build solutions, and empower communities.
Nearly 300,000 children and teens (under age 18) in the Food Banks 34-county service area may not know where their next meal is coming from. Many of these children are not receiving regular meals at home in the evenings, over the weekend, or on school breaks.
No child should have to worry when he or she will eat again, and no parent should have to skip a meal, water down drinks or risk not paying a bill so they can put food on the table for their children. Since its inception, Students Against Hunger has provided hundreds of thousands of meals to families with the support of local schools.
Per the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, food insecurity lacking consistent access to enough nutritious food to live a healthy, active life is linked to poor nutrition, poor health, poor cognitive functioning, increased risk for chronic disease, and substandard academic achievement. Food insecurity among children, even on a temporary basis, can have a lasting negative impact on their social, physical, and mental health.
Students Against Hunger will help bridge the gap between people facing food insecurity and the critical resources needed to survive.
