Story
The facts.
👥 71% of all lawyers working in large firms have a parent from a professional background.
💷 22% of partners at SRA regulated law firms attended an independent/ fee-paying school.
🎓 Oxbridge graduates make up <1% of all UK graduates, but a staggering 15.4% of trainees.
Who are we?
I was the first-generation in my family to attend university, came from a working class background and had very little knowledge of how to succeed in law. STRIVE wanted people like me to succeed, and the mentors have similar backgrounds too. It’s extremely encouraging to know someone like you has been successful."
We are STRIVE. STRIVE is an award-winning charity that has helped hundreds of underrepresented aspiring commercial lawyers from challenging socio-economic backgrounds secure Vacation Schemes and Training Contracts with top City law firms.
STRIVE was founded in 2018 by Sana Shafi and Bertilla Chow, both qualified lawyers representing both visibly and invisibly diverse strands, being ethnic minority females from socially mobile backgrounds.
Whether first-/second-generation refugees who fled from civil wars in their home country, children of single-parent households or neglected students from low-performing state schools, STRIVE students come in all (metaphorical) shapes and sizes.
How can I support the STRIVE vision?
We deliver our impact through our two programmes: Supernova and shift() (our LegalTech programme)
Between these programmes and our Membership programme, we touch the lives of hundreds of students every year.
However it takes significant resources, time and money to develop our programmes to the high standard that they're at and to enable all our candidates to benefit from our support - free of charge.
STRIVE for 5K
STRIVE for 5K is our flagship fundraising run taking place between July 3rd to July 9th.
Run (or walk! 😉) to help us raise money for STRIVE! We’re raising money for social mobility, so we can continue to deliver our award-winning programmes for those who need us.
STRIVE for 5K aims to raise 5K in donations by asking our participants to complete 5K over the course of a week. There’s no conditions - just run 5K wherever and whenever you like and use the Strava app to track your heat map.
