Story
Do you want to take part in a challenge that will directly help people in Norfolk and Waveney?
We are inviting you all to put your best foot forwards and set yourself a walking target- anything from a mile to anything over 10 miles across the 10th September- 13th September 2020. Mark World Suicide Prevention Day and raise funds for our suicide prevention and bereavement services.
You can walk on a treadmill watching your favourite film, march up and down your stairs, stomp in the woods, amble along our beautiful coast or pound the pavement in your local neighbourhood. We are spoilt for choice for walking routes in Norfolk and Waveney.
All fundraising goes towards our Lighthouse, SAIL and Anchor Projects. By walking together to prevent suicide you are enabling us to work together to prevent suicide.
About the services
Lighthouse- Providing FREE certificated training for those living and/or working in North Norfolk (we would love to provide further training opportunities in the future subject to funding). The course specialises in helping people understand suicide, recognise signs of suicidal behaviour and feel more confident in supporting someone with suicidal thoughts. It's available for education professionals, other charities and the general public.
SAIL- (Support After Immediate Loss) -Focuses on supporting individuals at the immediacy of the loss, both emotionally and practically.
Those bereaved by suicide are 65% more likely to attempt suicide after a friend or family member dies by suicide (based on figures from 2015-2017)
Anchor - Focuses on postvention groups to support and assist those bereaved or affected by suicide.
Postvention is prevention for the next generation - Shneidman (1972)
