Saving St Richard's

As St Richard's nears its 60th anniversary the roof is letting in water and desperately needs replacing. The leaks have also caused structural damage. Just stage 1 costs £350,000: we hope many will want to help us save this iconic building.

The iconic building is now listed and on Heritage England's 'At Risk' register. We now need over £3m to replace rotten beams, replace the roof covering, and improve the lighting, toilets, etc. We want the building to be in the heart of Ham for the church, school and community for another 60 years!

Story

St Richard's is approaching its 60th anniversary. The soaring ceiling, the light streaming in all round, and the brightly coloured 'dalles de verre' windows make it a remarkable building. But the roof is letting in water and desperately needs replacing, while hidden structural damage also needs urgent repair. Historic England have listed the building and in 2025 put it on the 'Heritage At Risk' register.

The overall cost is now expected to be a staggering £3.5 million, but we are working on an application to the National Heritage Lottery Fund for the bulk of that. The first phase - the development phase - is £350,000, and an application has already been made to the Fund for help with that. The more we can raise ourselves, the better are our chances of our bid being successful. We hope that many who appreciate this iconic building and have fond memories of activities within its walls will want to ensure its future for the community for the next 60 years.
