Story
Christmas. For most of us, a time for families, for friends, for laughter, for celebration, for a little bit of festive excess!
But for those living on the streets in our city, it is just another day to get through. Cold, often wet, lonely, sometimes abused. Another day of painful memories of families lost, of childhoods marred by neglect or worse, of fear for what tonight may bring. A day in which everyone else’s happiness only heightens a sense of alone-ness.
But on Christmas day, St Petrock’s will be serving the city’s rough sleepers a hot meal (Christmas dinner of course, with all the trimmings!) from our Centre in Cathedral Green, as we do throughout the year. And as they do every weekday throughout the year, our Outreach Team will scour the city’s streets to find those with nowhere to call home. To offer them a friendly face, to tell them they are not alone, to reassure them that we care.
This is what we do. All year round we provide fresh clothing, hot showers, hot food and drink, sleeping bags, a place of refuge from the chaos and dangers of street living, a friendly face to listen and to provide help, and ultimately to help them find a home. As Exeter’s local homeless charity, all that we do depends on public donations, so anything you can give will help us keep serving the city’s homeless throughout the year. Thank you so much for your support – we couldn’t do this without you!
