Welcome to our fundraising page.
The Parents and Friends of St Paul’s CE Primary School (PFA) are launching a campaign to raise funds for the design, purchase and installation of a permanent year-round outdoor classroom at St Paul’s, which will benefit all the current and future children at the school.
Children are increasingly isolated from the natural world, learn behind screens and suffer from a substantial rise in mental health issues. Scientific studies show that outdoor learning can reduce stress, improve mental health and enhance concentration. Spending more time connecting with nature can help to spark children’s creativity and imagination, and according to DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), ‘children engaged in learning in a natural environment have higher levels of achievement in reading, maths and science.’
Outdoor space at urban schools like ours is at a premium, and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to develop a currently underutilised area within our school grounds. The PFA has been busy working behind the scenes, and our planning application has been granted by Brighton and Hove City Council. The outdoor classroom will be a wooden gazebo structure with a whiteboard and benches, capable of accommodating a full class of 30 children, and intended for use all year round.
The PFA’s total fundraising target is £20,000 and thanks to all the amazing support provided so far, £6,000 has already been raised. The money raised from this page will be combined with funds raised from PFA events and grants to achieve our target. We are tremendously grateful for any contribution that will bring us closer to achieving our goal.
*Any excess funds raised will go directly towards other PFA projects. Our priority will be the next phase of this project; the installation of a playturf path that connects the outdoor classroom to the KS1 playground, and play bark surfacing to ensure that the area is a safe environment for the children to play.
