Story

We need your help. The impacts of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation are having a substantial impact on everyone's mental health. Our vital services are needed more now than ever before, but the situation is putting some vital aspects of our work at risk.

We are heavily reliant on fundraising income to continue what we do. Almost all the fundraising is via events, which are now on hold.

We are in urgent need of replacing the lost income to continue our work, so please will you donate or fundraise today, to help us continue supporting and protecting people in Stockport, and saving lives?

Donate Your Commute - If you're not travelling to work at the moment, or saving on transport to sports clubs, gyms and everywhere else due to the measures in place, why not donate the amount you're saving to us?

If due to current circumstances youre making other regular savings at the moment, such as not having to pay gym or sports club membership or anything else like this you could always donate some of this to us.

Isolation is causing tens of thousands of people in Stockport to go without key things that help us stay mentally well, especially connecting to loved ones and friends. And for many of those with mental health problems already, the impact has been hugely detrimental, with access to services and support with coping strategies now limited.

Since this situation came about, at times our helpline has been non-stop, with many people who have never contacted us before ringing in crisis, as well as those we know. Outbound calls to those we already support have gone up 68%, with a 63% increase in length of time spent on calls.

But our financial position has become precarious overnight, so we are now urgently in need of support to meet this growing demand. We had budgeted for £3000 income from fundraising activities every month, funding vital functions such as our telephone helpline that saves lives, but this has dropped off very quickly.

We need your support more than ever, and we want to be there for you you can read about our current support here.

Get innovative/Virtual fundraising - As much as things are quite restricted right now, why not join the many people making use of technology to host their events innovatively? Use video call software/apps to hold your event online. We've set up this page to give you some virtual fundraising ideas.

Giving is one of the five ways to wellbeing, so at this difficult time, you and your teams/members/friends can feel better by helping us to help others. A donation of just £5 would help us to talk by phone to distressed people, including some Carers of people with long-standing mental health conditions. Some of these people will be in despair and contemplating suicide (saving a life).

Together, your donations will mean we can be there for everyone in Stockport during these extremely challenging times, and can provide the vital support which is clearly so needed right now.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

If you are in crisis and need to talk to some immediately, please phone Samaritans on 116 123
