Story
We have all seen the news over the last few months of the increasingly worrying situation in Afghanistan.
The UK evacuated more than 8,000 people from the country, who were eligible for the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy. Of the evacuees, a number have been relocated to Stockport, where they currently await next steps.
These people have arrived in Stockport with little to nothing, leaving everything they know behind in the hope of a safe and peaceful life for their family.
Sector3 are overseeing the local charity sector emergency response by co-ordinating donations and service requests.
Whilst we have been inundated with generous offers of clothes and homeware donations (for which we are thankful for), we need financial support in order to provide tailored wellbeing services to the families to support them with their mental, physical and emotional health, which has taken a toll following their ordeal.
Your donation could go towards a counselling session, cricket session or painting workshop, for example, to help them to experience a slice of normality during a period when their lives have been turned upside down.
We are proud to host these families in Stockport and want to show them the infectious community spirit that prevails throughout our city.
