Story

Here at St Luke's Lunch we want to fill a hunger gap, increase social connections and provide a space for children to explore, create and have fun.

We're looking to brighten Christmas for low income families struggling to cope with the rising costs of living, our project aims to help those families hardest hit by this. Lawrence Hill is within the UK's 10% most deprived, over half the children are classed as living in poverty.

Throughout the year we provide regular family food hampers, have food preparation/cooking sessions and have lots of fun with games and crafts. At our after school and school holiday sessions, children and their parents can explore, play, create and make new friends.

This year we’ve seen an increase in families joining the Free Family Shop (foodbank). We regularly see 50 families and have a waiting list of families looking to join.

What we do and offer is guided by the families we work with. This winter families have asked for a supermarket voucher so they can stock up on food for the Christmas period when many services are closed.

We are also providing a family Christmas outing to the pantomime with lunch.

We need your support to make this happen. Please donate today so we can support struggling families with food to ensure they can eat well during this festive period.

£5 will buy 5 snack boxes for the children at the pantomime

£20 will support a small family with a gift voucher

£35 will support a large family with a gift voucher.

The more money raised the more we share we the families.

Quotes from last year:

“Being a single dad with a job. It's very hard for me to afford things usually. With Christmas it's nearly impossible. Thanks to your generosity and kindness I can make Christmas a bit more special for my daughter. Thank you"

“A massive thanks to you and the funders for all you do. It is really a huge help to my family. We love the recipe box, the voucher, and every other thing you gave us. You people really put a smile on our faces. We are grateful. Thanks greatly”

“Since I’ve been going through hell lately and after seeing the package, it really brought a smile to my face! We all appreciate it so much! Thank you for all your hard work, all the support and all the great things you and your team are doing for the community! What you guys do makes a huge difference to everyone who attend St Luke’s Lunch! We couldn’t be happier, please continue if you can!”

“Thank you very much for everything. Firstly, I love the Rupunzel acting, it was great, my daughter and I enjoyed ourselves. Secondly, the activity pack is encouraging because it’s keeping my daughter busy. Thirdly, my mouth was widely opened when I saw the voucher I got. It has really lifted a huge load on my shoulders this Christmas. Thank you for putting smiles on my family faces.”

“A smashing job, everything was set up with such great organisation. All your volunteers were polite and very welcoming. The options of food were great, and you really put a lot of thought into things, even making last minute arrangements due to a newly developed allergy. St Lukes Lunch have been the biggest support to me through many tough times and definitely recently due to our tower block evacuation. I stayed in Barton Hill due to having more support from St Luke's. Thankyou to everyone at St Luke's and to Amy who has gone above and beyond”

“Thanks for everything today, myself and the girls enjoyed every part, starting with the buffet, everything was perfectly made, followed by Santa presents that was good too, panto was really good and my girls can't stop telling their elder sister and friends how good it was. Thanks.”

“Thank you. I’m able to cook Christmas Dinner now. Couldn't manage without support.”
