Story
At St John's, we are lucky to have a relatively modern building. The problem is, that building is now 30 years old and everything is going wrong all at the same time. The latest casualty are our boilers. We replaced the secondary boiler last year, but now, the main boiler is on very borrowed time.
As well as being used for local groups, and of course our worship, twice a week, St John's opens its doors for St John's Soup Kitchen and Food Bank to feed the local community. For many of these guests, their homes are cold, and so, we like to keep the church toasty warm.
Our finances have suffered over the past few years. Covid hit us hard, as we lost the majority of our rental income which has never recovered. A changing demographic of our congregation, which now has a large proportion of food bank guests, means that our congregation can't give in the way they used to. We are now in a position where we can't absorb this kind of unexpected expenditure. Which is why we're turning to our community to help.
Please, if you can, consider helping us to keep our building warm and cosy for all who use it.
