Story

Positive Futures Lakeland Family Support Service supports 17 of the most vulnerable children with a learning disability, acquired brain injury, or autism, in the Fermanagh area. Many of the children we help require 1:2:1 and some 2:2:1, support.

The difference Positive Futures makes to the children we support is evidenced through the experience of one of our parents

My daughter was referred to Positive Futures from our social worker. My daughter has profound physical and learning disabilities and this impacts all areas of her development. Her mobility is unsteady, and she was quite passive. Since she has been going out on activities, this has helped her mobility and strength in gross and fine motor skills. Going swimming has been of huge benefit to her physical abilities and has been a wonderful sensory experience. Being able to engage in a great variety of other activities has been hugely beneficial to her as this has made her more engaged. This has been wonderful to see, how the Positive futures programme and staff have enhanced my daughter's development.

Positive futures support our family greatly. It provides some respite to us as my daughter's needs are very high. Knowing that she is getting such a variety of experiences with the amazing staff is tremendous. I know she is having a wonderful experience each time and that her needs are met. She enjoys a range of activities that are suitable to her needs, interests and at a suitable level for her. I also avail of the great parent training programmes that give fantastic support and knowledge.

The change from the childrens regular term time routine to the long summer holiday can be deeply unsettling for children who need a very regular routine to feel safe and secure.

Positive Futures delivers a summer scheme each year to help the children we support through the transition to the summer break and beyond, providing activities appropriate to each child, that engage and meet their needs. The children we support do fun activities, with staff and other children that they know and with whom the feel happy and secure.

To put on our summer schemes we need to hire venues, like community halls, and in some cases providers, who bring their expertise in delivering art, drama and music activities to engage our children. This is where your donations are so important as they make the difference between the barest of prgrammes and a really meaningfull scheme, that can make a real difference to the children we support.

That's why Tracey Cathy and Debbie have committed to walking the equivalent of from our office in Enniskillen to our main office in Bangor and back down to our main office in Dublin to raise funds.

So please donate generously and let us give the children we support a Summer Scheme that makes a real difference.
