Deaf men, women and children in Somalia come to us often afraid, confused and isolated. Did you know that Somali is one of only a few languages in the world which still doesn't have an official sign language? And with the country having suffered greatly over the past 30 years due to political instability and drought, the Deaf community have been incredibly vulnerable.
Often the families of deaf people don't have the awareness or education support them or give them access to even a fraction of what other's take for granted.
So we are so thrilled to be lunching our charity for Deaf Somalis: The Silent Horn Foundation. We are group of of young, passionate people from the UK who want better for Deaf people.
Up until now, we have attended huge deaf campaigning events across the world, opened a school in Mogadishu and are ready to publish the first ever reference work in Somali sign language and promote it at the Mogadishu book fair this year! We have also built our website and are taking generous donations.
But we have had to do all of this with the money we have saved in our own pockets. We have such potential to utilize our contacts, skills and passion to revolutionize deaf access in Somalia and for Somalis beyond, but we desperately need help.
We are launching this campaign to excellerate our progress and service to the Somali Deaf community. Charities like this need help for long lasting consistent and sustainable impact.
We are raising an initial £10,000 so that we have the resources to deliver education and support to families across Somalia and beyond for the years of 2023 and 2024. If we are successful we will be doing further campaigns.
Thank you so much for hearing us, so deaf Somalis too can be heard.
