***Update 6th June***

T H A N K Y O U

***Update 27th May 2020***

Amazingly, just 5 days into our first virtual Star Shine Walk, we are very close to reaching our target of £20,000. This is down to the incredible efforts of our participants, and every single person who has so kindly sponsored them. With a week and a half left of the event, and many more steps to go, we're thrilled at the prospect of going over that initial target. We'll be leaving this page open beyond 6th June so that we can keep celebrating raising these vital funds for the Hospice. From all of us at ARHC - Thank You.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On 10th February 2020 we launched our annual Star Shine Night Walk event and asked you to sign up, to help us make every moment count for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity patients and their families. Due to take place on Saturday 23rd May, we were working hard towards welcoming hundreds of you to an evening of music, fun, friendship and memories, along with the all-important walking, in support of the Hospice. We know many of you had begun to get the word out to your friends, and had set up JustGiving pages which were steadily filling up with generous donations. Were grateful for your enthusiastic support.

We never would have thought that just a few weeks later we would be navigating the strange days that we now find ourselves in. Star Shine Night Walk is always a special evening, as we join together to celebrate life in all its fullness and wonder, and remember those we miss. For lots of us, taking part in Star Shine Night Walk is a significant opportunity to remember, to celebrate, and to forge new memories. We know that it's still really important to take time to do these things, even while we're experiencing a pandemic. This year we were going to light up the darkness by glowing green for the Hospice on the streets of Cambridge. Sadly, its clear now that we wont be able to host the event in the same way as we have before.

With the full support of our generous headline sponsor, The Cambridgeshire Care Home, we are pleased to invite you to 2020's Virtual Star Shine Walk:

1. Join

Sign up at www.starshinenightwalk.co.uk and then pop back here to get your sponsorship page up and running.

2. Step

We're setting you the challenge to complete the 10 mile walk by accumulating a step count of 20,000 during the two weeks of 23 May - 6 June. This should be achieved in line with the Government's latest guidelines around exercise. If you are only able to do the steps within your home and garden, you can still take part and will be surprised how quickly the steps add up. We'd normally start the walk at twilight, but you can choose your own times and go at your own pace. If you don't have a way of electronically tracking your steps through a smart watch or mobile phone, don't let that put you off - we are happy for you to guesstimate!

3. Share

We'd love to see your selfies and screenshots of step counts during the two weeks, so keep us and your friends updated on social media by posting regular updates - use #StarShineWalk20 so we can see you and say a virtual hello! Make sure your friends, colleagues and neighbours know to sponsor you via your JustGiving page.

4. Celebrate!

Later in the year, we'll host a Star Shine Celebration Evening at the Hospice. We'll be able to thank you face to face, as well as award you with your medal, and toast together the success of our community effort.

We know these are uncertain times, but we also know that our supporters are capable of incredible things. We know this because every year you help to raise £3.98 million so that our Hospice services can reach the people who need it. This event would normally raise around £40,000. Individually we might not feel we can make a significant difference, but by joining together we've got a chance to make something amazing happen. If 400 supporters sign up to Star Shine Walk, and each raise £50 in sponsorship, we'd be over the moon. Our community needs us, and we want to be there - will you help us? Let's weather this storm together, Team Arthur Family. We can't wait to see you when it ends.
