Story
Coronavirus threatens the very fabric of our society. As the pandemic intensifies, precious lives are being lost prematurely. Jobs are at risk. Small businesses are struggling. Visits to loved ones have ceased. Vulnerable children who previously sought the safety net of daily school attendance are faltering as they attempt to maintain their education. Without adequate PPE, care homes and healthcare providers are putting themselves and those they care for at risk. Those who are already disadvantaged by poverty, ill-health or loneliness are suffering the most.
Shine Charity is working in partnership with Star Academies, our sister organisation, to establish Star Family Hubs across the country which will become community support centres to make life better for those within the Star family. Help can be accessed by pupils who attend Star schools, their siblings parents and grandparents; former pupils of Star schools and their families; people and residents who live in Star school neighbourhoods; local care homes, GP surgeries and hospitals; Star staff, governors, volunteers and their families.
How you can help
Your support will help the Family Hubs to:
1. Provide food packs and vouchers to Star family members who cannot afford to feed themselves.
2. Provide toiletry and home hygiene vouchers to Star families who are in financial difficulty.
3. Provide PPE packs to local care homes, GP surgeries and hospitals.
4. Provide advice and support for those in fuel poverty.
5. Provide access to technology and stationery to any Star pupils who do not have these resources in their homes.
6. Provide a telephone helpline to support parents requiring advice about home learning.
7. Provide continued school provision to the vulnerable children and the children of key workers.
Help us to help them.
