Story
We are a small group of like-minded people who all have a connection with the Shooting Star Unit in Wrexham Maelor Hospital in some way.
Our ambition was to gift a small gesture of support for patients who are about to embark on a difficult journey. Being schedule to commence chemotherapy can be an overwhelming and terrifying experience. Even if well prepared with advance information, the out of control feeling can be overwhelming for most patients.
We wanted patients to know that there are so many people, either directly or indirectly, hoping that they can find the strength to cope both physically and mentally during their treatment.
The idea came from Grace, one of our volunteers, who in 2020 wanted thank the Unit for the care they gave her during six months of treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma. She raised over £14,000 and used £5,000 of the money raised to purchase The TREATment Bags for patients receiving care like she did.
100 Bags were given out to patients on their first visit to the Shooting Star Unit and they had been delighted to receive something to support them on their journey.
And so, the Star Box was born!
Anne Marie, Grace, Sara, Kathryn, Kathy and Sam are your Star Box volunteers and we have been working for over a year to bring a box of comforts to patients on the Shooting Star Unit.
We are so excited for this adventure and are so thankful to all of our donors and sponsors to date.
Want to help us bring even more Star Boxes to patients? Donate today or set up your own fundraising event to raise money for the Star Box Fund!
Thank you,
Anne Marie, Grace, Sara, Kathryn, Kathy and Sam x
