Story
STAND (Striving Towards A New Day) promotes the well-being of people living with dementia in Fife. STAND's work is led by people living with a diagnosis of dementia and their friends and families.
STAND believes people living with dementia can live a good life and have a positive and fulfilling life. Accepting the diagnosis as early as possible, so that support can be put in place and having support from peers are key to STAND's approach.
STAND delivers Dementia Friendly Meeting Centre Spaces (DFMCS) across Fife. These groups are open to people who are affected by changes to their memory and day to day functioning. The groups are led by people living with a diagnosis of dementia and their families and friends, supported by workers and volunteers.
having Young Onset Alzheimer’s disease can be a very lonely place indeed. Loss of work, loss of peers/work colleagues, loss of self respect/worth/esteem, the list seems endless sometimes. This group has however shed a new beam of light on my life at a time that all I could see was darkness. It has afforded me the honour and privilege of meeting a new group of friends who truly understand what it is like to be living with Dementia and who in all honesty have made me smile again, both inside and outside.
