Story

We're in the process of raising funds to deliver a fun and engaging outdoor space for our pre-school age children here in Whetstone.

Outside play encourages co-ordination, core stability and playing co-operatively. Play and movement are vital to children's development at all ages but in particular, the first five years of their life have a huge bearing on their future and we therefore want to ensure that all those who attend the pre-school and other community-focussed groups in and around Whetstone have an outdoor space which complements their brand new, purpose built interior space located within the Springwell building on Dog and Gun lane.

By the end of January 2022, our aim is to raise £10,000 which will allow us to provide the following elements of an outdoor play space that will create a safe, secure and most importantly exciting area for our children to enjoy and grow in:

- Fencing around the full perimeter of the site with secure gated access

- Artificial turf laid across the full space

- Provision of new outdoor appropriate toys/games and sensory equipment along with secure storage

A garden area is such an important part of our preschool, as our learning is not limited to indoors. The outdoor learning space holds endless possibilities for children to discover, construct, create and explore in an environment where their movement is not restricted. Playing in a garden enables the children to understand and be curious about nature, animals, plants and mini beasts, and to respect their natural environment. Also, finally, children do tend to learn more when they are actively engaged in an inspiring awe filled environment. We love to go out in all weathers, and to quote Alfred Wainwright (1973) There is no bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

We are a community of faith that lives to glorify God through Jesus Christ in worship, making disciples, loving one another, and serving the community. We're a group of ordinary people from many backgrounds, who have had many different experiences in life, both good and bad. We have one thing that brings us together and unites us – our love for our Father God and our relationship with him through his son, Jesus Christ.
