Story
8 in 10 disabled people wish to do more physical activity, but face a number of barriers to participation, barriers that have been magnified by the pandemic increased isolation, restricted access to suitable facilities and equipment, increased mental health issues.
Sported believe passionately that young people with physical or mental disabilities should have the same opportunity to run and play as any other young person. They work with over 900 community organisations across the UK who deliver opportunities to play for young people with disabilities, providing the coaches and volunteers with the knowledge, guidance and funding required to break down the multiple barriers to participation.
Through the fundraising efforts in the Great North Run, Sported will be able to increase the support for these groups, as well as educating a wider network of groups on how to be disability inclusive, with the ultimate goal of getting more young people with disabilities enjoying the benefits of running and playing.
