Story
Back in 1990 when the charity was established, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation became the first charity soley dedicated to lung cancer and 30 years on, they retain their position and remain totally committed to supporting all those affected by lung cancer.
Over the last 30 years, with so much support, the charity has:
Funded over £30 million in lung cancer research
Lay the groundwork for lung cancer screening
Funded the first ever lung cancer nurse specialist
Performed the first every keyhole lung cancer surgery
Instigated and implemented the ban on smoking in public places and in cars
Helped thousands of people stop smoking
Funded and built the worlds first lung cancer research centre
Campaigned for life-lengthening treatments
Raised awareness of lung cancer, challenged the misconceptions around the disease and improved attitudes
Provided emotional, practical and financial support for thousands and thousands of people diagnosed and living with lung cancer
But there is still so much more to do and as the current situation proves, the need for our charity is imperative. People with lung cancer are at the highest risk of serious illness if they contract COVID-19. In addition to this, many are faced with the very realistic prospect that their treatment may be postponed. This is understandably creating high levels of anxiety and worry.
As a result, calls to our Ask the Nurse telephone helpline have increased by 56% whilst our latest Keep in Touch service is ensuring the most socially isolated are not overlooked or forgotten.
People with lung cancer need us now more than ever so please set up a fundraising page today every penny raised counts and will make a big difference.
