Story

Imagine feeling like a failure as a parent. Faced with parent-blaming and uncertainty. Unsure what the future holds for your child or even what you can do to help. Waiting lists for speech and language therapy are higher than ever.

Finding out your child is struggling with talking and understanding words can leave parents feeling worried, guilty and isolated. Hundreds of families visit the website every week to book an appointment to speak with one of our speech and language advisors. But because of funding we are only able to offer appointments to 31 families. This means without more funding we are letting them down when they need us most.

“The advice line reassured me that what I was doing was enough, that I’m doing right by him and that it’s not a failing on my part as his mum.” - Lois, Teddy's mum.

Without your support this Christmas, there won’t be enough places for every parent that so desperately needs help and support from the advice line.

About the charity

At least 1.9 million children in the UK are struggling to talk and understand words.  We give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind. We do this by creating tools for schools and nurseries, giving advice and guidance to families and putting pressure on politicians.
