Story

SpArC POOL AT 50 POST FANZONE SCORE

We started the campaign in November 2023 with £70,000 from our previous fundraising. By mid October 2024, we are over halfway through the pool's 50th birthday year, the fund having grown to £190,000 as a result of everybody's amazing efforts in supporting Oliver Morgan via the August Olympic Fanzone.

But we still have a long way to go to raise a further £60,000 by the end of 2024. So please help us to achieve this by donating here at our Just Giving page.

Thank you.

About the charity

The aims and objectives of SpArC are to meet the sports, recreation and leisure activities of all members of the South West Shropshire community, in order to improve their quality of life in a wide rural area. £240,000 of community and grant funding have been raised and spent to date, supported by substantial volunteer activity. Achievements have included: ● replacement gym equipment and spin bikes ● lifeguard, sports leadership and first aid training for young people, and children’s holiday activities ● LED lighting and insulation ● a garden with decking around the leisure centre ● donations towards theatre running costs ● a pool cover, lockers and baby changing facilities ● subsidising medical referrals ● martial arts, pickleball and children’s sport equipment. The Leisure Centre’s pool will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2024. Coincidentally, its lining is unlikely to outlive the year. We aim to upgrade the whole structure, making it environmentally and financially sustainable, installing: ● an insulated steel tank, to reduce water volume and heating costs ● a ramp or steps, widen access for disabled and elderly people.
