Story
The All Saints spaceforall project will revitalise our church building, making it more open, more available, and more inspiring to the community it serves.
Whilst retaining its role as a place of worship this spacious church building will be turned into an accessible and flexible community meeting space, an inspiring venue for cultural and educational events, and a centre for discovering our local heritage.
With its large floor area All Saints is well placed to provide space for pop-ups for local charities and other groups, and ideally situated for the most disadvantaged, as local people can easily walk here.
There are gaps in provision in Wokingham for the vulnerable to access drop-in type support, where information or advice may be accessed on an informal or more formal basis. But we could be so much more than just another social space with volunteers from disadvantaged groups running our community café, providing a safe environment for skills to be developed and friends to be made.
"I support wholeheartedly the plan for the re-vitalisation of this building because of the increased benefits it will offer to the local community. It will help provide for both spiritual and social needs in a sustainable way for the future and ensure that a prominent historic building remains viable and useful." Lucy Zeal, High Steward of Wokingham, former High Sheriff of Berkshire
From our local school: "We are very excited about the prospect of updated facilities at the church which will enable us to continue to hold our services in the church and not have to restrict the number of parents who attend." Headteacher of All Saints Primary School
We want to widen and increase access to a programme of classical, pop and folk concerts, lectures, discussions and exhibitions. The diversity of these events will have widespread appeal across the community and Alison Sears, Chair, Wokingham Choral Society says "The acoustics have always been very good. And the new plans will make using the church as a concert venue very, very much more user-friendly."
We seek to create a new open space to serve a growing community in Wokingham. The church will become a centre accessible to all, where many people and groups can meet in a safe and welcoming environment. It will offer a flexible space and a modern venue. We believe these changes will guarantee its indispensable benefit to the future life of our town; whilst retaining its role as an inspiring place of prayer and reflection.
The Reverend Canon David Hodgson, Rector sums up the project "We seek to create a new open space to serve a growing community in Wokingham. The church will become a centre accessible to all, where many people and groups can meet in a safe and welcoming environment. It will offer a flexible space and a modern venue. We believe these changes will guarantee its indispensable benefit to the future life of our town; whilst retaining its role as an inspiring place of prayer and reflection."
