Story
The pandemic has exacerbated feelings of loneliness and social isolation, particularly amongst older members of the community who often have limited opportunities for social activities outside their homes.
According to Age UK there are 1.4m chronically lonely older people in England. More than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than 1m older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.
Live Music Now's Songs and Scones events act as a musical connector, creating opportunities for friendship and shared experiences for people who would otherwise miss out. Just £24.96 could pay for an isolated older person to enjoy a Songs & Scones event, enjoy participating in live music-making and make vital connections within their own community.
Through Live Music Now's network of regional branches, older people who are isolated or experiencing loneliness are invited to join others in their community for a regular, uplifting, musical afternoon tea. The real magic of Songs and Scones happens over tea and cake as the musicians chat with the people attending, learning about their musical loves and favourite songs, which they can then perform and showcase at subsequent Song and Scones events. They are happy, inclusive, life-enhancing events.
With the generous support of our donors and partners, we hope to bring Songs and Scones to libraries and community spaces up and down the country on a monthly basis for a whole year.
