Story
This appeal is to help the charity WORLDwrite work with over 100 filmmaking volunteers to make a feature-length documentary on the history of solidarity in the UK.
But to go the distance and make the film, we need your support. Our fledgling crew are undertaking an ambitious fundraising challenge. They aim to travel as far as they can in 48 hours. By bike, plane, car, boat with whatever freebies they can muster and just £25 in their pocket they hope to rack up the miles. Can you dig deep and make this fundraising challenge a goer? Will you pledge one of our intrepid travelers £1 a mile? Volunteers are beginning to set up their own fundraising pages here and would love you to spur them on with a donation.
More on the film - Inspired by WORLDwrite's young crews filming solidarity messages for Ukraine, this film will bring to light the inspiring tales of men and women over the past 160 years who took it upon themselves to fight for a cause greater than their own. The Lancashire weavers in the 1860s who refused to touch the cotton from American slave plantations, men who supported the fight for women's rights, the townspeople supporting black American GI's stationed in Bamber in 1943 & gay men supporting the 1984 miner's strike are just a few examples of many we hope to cover.
Crowd filmed by volunteers, interspersed with firsthand accounts, archive and expert testimony, this project will bring to life the heroic stories which shine a light upon our common humanity. Sadly there is no authoritative account or book detailing these heroic moments in British history but with your help, we can put that right, with a film!
To start with, we need to raise the cash. Training, shooting and working with over 100 volunteers over the year, will be costly. But we'll do whatever it takes and our 48- hour go-the-distance challenge is a great way to get things moving! Can you help us get going and chip in your support here? We need you on our side as well as all you can afford! Email us today to let us know if you can help with this new project at world.write@btconnect.com and we'll keep you posted. It's easy to become a fundraiser too if you are up for the challenge yourself.
We are hugely grateful for any amount you can afford. It's easy and safe to donate here.
Thank you.
