Story

2024 has already become the most deadly year for people surviving in the UK-France border zone. Heavy militarisation of the border, intentional blocking of our distribution points, and the general growth of right-wing politics is pushing displaced people in Calais to the edge, both physically and mentally. They are desperate to leave, yet at the same time are prevented from doing so. People are being forced by hostile policies into making more dangerous crossings, directly resulting in many avoidable deaths.

The authorities in France, in close collaboration with the British, constantly take away the tents and belongings of displaced people, making them more vulnerable and exposed to the winter weather. We need your help to provide vital aid to people so they can stay warm, fed, sheltered, and emotionally supported as well as physically.

In order to show our strength and passion to build a welcoming Europe, we welcome you to our campaign, Solidarity has no Borders. With this action, we take on a responsibility to share more news about the situation and reach new people who do not understand who is in the border zone, how they ended up in Calais, where they’re going and the legal situation of them.

You can donate directly on this page, or go the extra mile and host a Solidarity Event.

Where does my direct donation go?

The donations on this page go into a bank hosted by forReufgees. The members then share these funds between them to support their work with people on the ground, and also pay for shared costs such as warehouse rent and staff.

What is a Solidarity Event?

This can be a music event (like a small gig or theatre show), sport event (like a rugby match or ping-pong tournament), a classic bake sale, or an information event (where people give a talk about the situation to an audience).

We will be on-hand to help you, and have an event guide, materials, t-shirts, stickers and free speakers to make organising an event so much easier.

All you need to do is;

- Choose to host either a music event, sport event, bake sale or information evening, or have an idea of your own. It might also be an idea to include a few friends, or motivate your sports club, social club or local cafe to get involved.

- Let us know that you’re hosting an event to gain support, promotion and advice,

- Create your own donate page which links up to this main crowdfunder,

- Secure a space where you can host your event, and choose a date,

- Invite your friends, family and network to show that Solidarity has no borders!

- After the event, funds will directly come to us online. You can also collect cash and send it to us directly.
